Upper Belvedere Palace

  • Rental fees: Permanent collection tour €5.00.
  • For reasons of hygiene, we ask you to use personal headphones (standard 3.5 mm connection). As an alternative, disposable headphones are provided.
  • Please note that it is not mandatory to carry an ID proof if you have only purchased non-discounted tickets.
  • Please note that the Austrian sign language multimedia guides are only available free of charge on YouTube as videos on your mobile phone. A new edition of the multimedia guides is still being worked on.

  • The Upper Belvedere's north and west facades are set to undergo renovations from April 2024. Scaffolding will be disguised with a net replicating the facade. The entrance and access to the venue will remain unaffected.

Close to the Belvedere Palace complex, Belvedere 21 museum is Vienna's center of contemporary art. The museum displays incredible artwork created by Austrian artists in the last 70 years and the best of international artists. Exhibitions are also commonly held, allowing visitors to see the most famous Austrian art of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Constructed by Karl Schwanzer in 1958, Belvedere 21 was, however, not built as a museum. Schwanzer designed it as the Austrian pavilion for the World Exhibition in Brussels. Later, it moved to Vienna and opened as a museum to display 20th-century art. In 2011, it was remodeled by Adolf Krischanitz, and the museum's focus shifted to contemporary art.
