It was very huge museum. I stayed about 5 hours to see all of the exhibitons. Especially, there were so many mineral samples and jewelries, it was very interested for me.

We focussed on the outstanding collection of painting, though we would have loved to have time to see the rest on other floors. You need a whole day there to do that and we only had about 4 hours. The museum itself is justifiably considered an architectural gem and the staircase certainly lives up to its reputation. We found the paintings displayed in an easy-to-appreciate format: the displayed collections were not too big and not too small, so we could appreviate each item. The rooms prioritise balance and calm which we really appreciated. The cafe, where we had an early lunch, is architecturally glorious and not more expensive than elsewhere - but expect queues as it is small and, when we went, understaffed. We can imagine that at peak times the wait might be very long. Next time we'll make sure we spend the whole day there .

Very satisfying experience as always. Nice museum display despite the turnout. Just too bad that e-ticket was not directly available for this visit and redemption transactions were unclear

I used the Vienna Megapass with my boyfriend and it was a great way to see the city. The flexibility of choosing attractions was perfect for us. I had a small issue setting up the e-sim at first, but customer support helped me quickly and everything worked fine. Thank you!

The Kunstkammer (chamber of art)

The Habsburg monarchs’ vast collection of artworks held not just paintings; from the early Middle Ages, they began acquiring decorative objects of art made of precious materials and with intricate detail. The Kunstkammer holds over 2,000 such rare and fascinating items prized for their excellent craftsmanship and artistic innovation. The highlight of this collection is Cellini’s Saliera, an exquisite 16th-century gold and enamel sculpture.

Unique thematic exhibitions

The Kunsthistorisches Museum periodically holds special temporary exhibitions focusing on particular artists, themes, or artworks. These exhibitions feature rare, limited-edition exhibits that are not part of the permanent collection and provide a deeper understanding of the styles, elements, and themes used.
